Chuparosa

In areas of Mexico, the hummingbird is called a “Chuparosa”.

The Chuparosa Bush (Justicia californica) is a shrub
with 2-lipped long tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds.

This encaustic painting  titled “Chuparosa” incorporates images of the humming bird as well as the flower of the hummingbird bush.

BEACH

The wind spins
The sandy fabric
Of the shore
Into swaths
Of undulating silk
Patterned by gull’s feet,
The delicate paths of pipers,
Shells in bas relief.
Out at sea
White wool
Is carded ceaselessly.
