Chuparosa

In areas of Mexico, the hummingbird is called a “Chuparosa”.

The Chuparosa Bush (Justicia californica) is a shrub
with 2-lipped long tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds.

This encaustic painting  titled “Chuparosa” incorporates images of the humming bird as well as the flower of the hummingbird bush.

BEACH

by Eileen Reierson

The wind spins
The sandy fabric
Of the shore
Into swaths
Of undulating silk
Patterned by gull’s feet,
The delicate paths of pipers,
Shells in bas relief.
Out at sea
White wool
Is carded ceaselessly.

Donna Mattson - Encaustic demonstration

Art in the Pearl – Saturday was a beautiful day for the artists and visitors to walk the Park Blocks in Portland.

The booth for the Rental Sales Gallery was in a great location and I had good response from visitors interested in the encaustic process.

After closing up our booths we met up with fellow artist/potter Patrick Horsley and wife Artheen for wine, laughs and dinner. Caprial and John Pence had recommended Beijing Hot Pot for dinner. It was SO GOOD! You’ll have to try it on SE 82nd!

A day with fun friends, good wine, great art, exotic food – it just can’t be beat!

Art in Mount Angel

August 25, 2010

Thank you Mary Grant for hosting Art in Mount Angel.
It was a fun evening with great wines flowing from Hanson Vineyard. About 50 art patrons and well wishers came from Mount Angel, Silverton, Keizer, Salem, Redland and parts between filling (but not crowding) the Grant Company office building. My newer encaustic work and acrylic paintings were both well received. For those of you interested in the techniques used in painting with wax, please join me…

The best is yet to be.

TODOS SANTOS

Sunshine, palm trees,
Hibiscus blossoms,
The splash of water
In a fountain.

Someone long ago
Had written,
Almost hidden
Around the sundial’s edge,
“Grow old along with me,
The best is yet to be.”

–Eileen Reierson – 2009
